Resolved Has anyone converted on old tank into room?

So I really like the idea of a room versus the old style tank. I have 2 apollo tanks and am considering using the base (so the heating and pumps are already done) and adding walls and a ceiling to it.



anyone ever done this?



anyone have some thoughts on it??



with the doors, anyone know how to source a fitted door for a room? i keep seeing ones in pics that look like they are from a boat or camper but the ones i find like it are too small and the larger ones dont look great or have big windows in them...

We have other customers like yourself who are using their equipment from another tank and just hooking it up to our float room. So you really just purchase our fiberglass shell and do the rest yourself. Just a thought....

Float rooms are built around fiberglass tubs, so you are essentially doing what the manufacturers do except using an existing float tank bottom. For the door, consider using a glass shower with frame if the room your cabin/room is in is well shielded from light. Shower doors are readily available and more economical than other solutions.You could also place a film on the outside of the glass door. A critical issue will be the junctions of the tank to the walls. Can you do this without caulking? Most likely you will be using FRP wall panels for the interior wall which are affixe to the wooden frame you are building around the tank. Comfort issues will include heating and ventilation control. What is the heating method of an Apollo tank? You can see some other posters on We Float are using radiant heating as a option as well.

Re: caulk .. you want to limit its usage. Exposed caulk on the interior may degrade over time and could become a habitat for bacteria. 100% silicone is recommended.



Re: glass door. The room your room is in will all require soundproofing. You don't necessarily need to rely on the float room itself to provide all of the soundproofing. A glass door is not going to offer a level of soundproofing similar to a fiberglass or 'marine' door. You can find thermally insulated shower doors, or you may consider double glazed glass exterior doors. Those are typically heavier, though.

why not caulk? is that in general or specifically caulk? i currently use sika-pool (brand name) but its a marine grade sealant (maybe silicone) thats used for boat and pool repairs below the waterline. i was thinking i would butt the pieces together and make a lip or flange to make any condensation drip along walls vs. pooling at the edge.



how soundproof and insulative would a glass door be?



current heating system is an under-tile heating system- it works for now so i will keep that going but if/when it ever breaks i might look into other heating systems.
